No more conehead!

Holly had her sutures removed yesterday!  Today is her 2 week ampuversary.  She hasn’t been eating well for the last week, but yesterday she ate both breakfast and dinner, and she gobbled down breakfast today!  And she gladly ate a few treats at the vet’s when her stitches were removed!  (I knew she wasn’t feeling well when she wouldn’t even eat treats over the weekend).  (can you tell how excited I am that she’s eating by all of the exclamation points I’m using?)  She’s off of all of her meds except tramadol at this point – today I will ask the vet how much longer she needs that one.

We celebrated by taking a long walk yesterday… her favorite thing to do.  We walked for about 25 minutes, and she was so excited to be on her old walking route.  She got to trade sniffs with a chocolate lab, which was very exciting indeed.  And I can tell she’s feeling better because she was sleeping upside down in her crate again for the first time since surgery, and she was making little woofing noises.  All good signs!  I wasn’t fast enough to get a picture of her sleeping, though.  I’ll need to have the camera ready for next time!

I’m hoping to talk to the vet today to get some more information so we can make a decision about chemo.  I feel like the more I read, the more questions I have.  I’m hoping that after talking to him I’ll have a better sense of which way we should go.  But today – I’ll listen to all the good advice here and celebrate that she’s happy and eating and for today life is good!

  1. Yay! Glad Holly’s doing so well! She deserves all the !!!!!!!!!!!’s.
Today is Timber’s ampuversary and we’re celebrating by going to see Dr. Edinger and getting his staples removed…WOO-HOO!

At our 6 am bathroom break, Timber spotted 2 coyotes coming out of the woods across the street…thank God I had the harness to hold on to as he barked them away and woke up the neighborhood…he was definitely feeling his old self…

Timber already had 4 radiation and chemo treatments before surgery…today we have to decide if we do 2 more chemos for follow-up…

My advice to you is to be a good sponge and just take a deep breath and let all that good info in…take your time…you’ll sort it out…

blessings to you and Holly from Timber and Denise

  2. Thanks, Timber and Denise! How wonderful that Timber is also feeling his old self – that makes our hearts sing, doesn’t it? Holly chased the squirrels from the bird feeder yesterday, which she feels is her “job” in our house. I loved seeing her do that!
We’ll celebrate Timber getting his stitches out today and Holly’s and Timber’s (and Tehya’s?) ampuversaries with another long walk.
blessings to you and Timber, Denise – from Holly and Susan

  3. Hooray for Holly! 🙂 You have reason to be excited for her, as she has passed another great milestone and appears to be well on her way to a complete recovery. Thanks for the update!

  4. Way to go Holly!!
I agree with Denise- take in all the information you can, write down your questions so you can get the answers you need from your vet.
Also- think about Holly. When I make decisions on treatment for Maggie I always consider how she deals with things, the trama vet visits sometimes cause her, and now her age. You know Holly best.

Congrats on this milestone and good luck as you procede.
