Holly had her first round of chemo today. So far it appears she tolerated it well. She received an injection of an anti-nausea drug (cerenia? Not sure of the spelling) prior to the chemo which may have helped. She stayed at the vet’s for a few hours so they could monitor her and administer fluids. She was happy when I came to pick her up! She slept the rest of the afternoon while I worked – she seemed very mellow. But at dinner time she wolfed down her food, which hasn’t happened in days. We took a short walk tonight and now it’s just about her bedtime. Our vet recommended keeping her pretty quiet for the next few days until we see how she’s doing – so no long walks until we’re sure she’s tolerating this treatment. Car rides will have to satisfy my girl for now – they’re her other favorite thing to do.
On another front, she had her first bath post-surgery yesterday! She did really well with that (of course treats helped!), and now smells great and is as soft as a little puppy. I always call her my baby gund after a bath. 🙂 Time to go snuggle with the baby!
Awww, baby gund. Well, since the vet was proactive with the Cerenia, I bet she’ll do great. Yoda went through his first two chemos without Cerenia and no sign of side effects. By the third though he did need Cerenia, but his tummy upset cleared up real quick once he took it. Best wishes for little Holly. I hope her chemo treatments are even less eventful than Yoda’s were, and that they kick her cancer’s butt!!!
Great to hear that all is going so well. Often the appetite tails off for a few days until the chemicals are out of the system at about four days. So if this does happen, to not worry too much. We have also heard of many who have no ill effects what so ever. Things will get a little easier after the first, but with this great start….. Keep the hugs flowing.

I’m SO glad that you and Holly had a good experience with your first chemo!
Timber seems to have tolerated his 5th pretty well, but by Wednesday, he would only eat about 1/2 his food. I gave him the Cerenia…it seemed to make him sleepy…he wasn’t anxious to go for walks…which was just as well since he came home limping…apparently they put his IV in his only back leg and now its bothering him and he can’t stand on it…definitely makes going out for potty breaks a challenge…hoping he’s better today…
Hope things continue to go well for Holly…
